Bibliographic management tools
Bibliographic management tools can save you time by allowing you to compile, create, and organize bibliographic references and build a bibliographic database. When you are ready to create your bibliography, all of your references are in one convenient location. Once you’ve imported (or created) your records, select an output style, and then let the program create your bibliographies for you.
The Research Library supports EndNote, EndNote Web and RefWorks. Both EndNote and RefWorks are fully integrated with MS Word which creates your citations while you write your paper according to the style output you have selected. Additional functionality includes searching online catalogs and/or databases (e.g. Library of Congress, PubMed). See the table below for more comparison.

Another tool used by the scientific community is BibTeX, "a tool and a file format which are used to describe and process lists of references, mostly in conjunction with LaTeX documents." OPPIE offers export in BibTex format, to a txt file which you can import into BibTeX.
Downloading citations
You can download citations into bibliographic management tools from many databases, including:
- OPPIE
- ISI Web of Knowledge
- the Research Library Catalog
- GeoRef and other ProQuest databases
- PubMed
- Any database that is able to output in RIS format (a tagged format of expressing the bibliographic citation)
