Hello everyone! I am delighted to be able to send greetings to each of you as you explore the rich history, culture, and diversity of New Orleans.

Time and again, the people of New Orleans have shown the resilience of the American spirit. After the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, the city’s leaders worked tirelessly to build a stronger – and more secure – community. And following last year’s oil spill in the gulf, the natural disaster experts once again put on their hard hats and helped the community rebuild. From the history of the city and its strong southern culture, to the efforts that have been made to improve and enrich the state, New Orleans represents the best of America.

I understand that you just heard from my good friend James Carville tonight. He is the perfect person to introduce you to the ways of New Orleans – complete with his fiery sense of humor and impeccable southern hospitality. Once he is finished doing what he does best – charming each of you –I hope you will take this opportunity to turn to your neighbor, to learn about who they are and what they do – and discover how we are all interconnected in ways large and small.

When you leave the Beltway and explore this vast American country, you have the opportunity to meet different leaders from all walks of life. These conversations create investment opportunities and encourage the mutual understanding needed for successful global partnerships.

So I hope you take full advantage of this wonderful program over the next few days and that you do come away with a deeper understanding of the American people. And then I look forward to seeing you back in DC – in our capital – sometime soon. Thank you all very much.
