What do you think about the Army Training Network (https://atn.army.mil)? And what can we do to make it a better resource for Army training examples, good ideas, best practices and products.

And if you haven’t used ATN before, listen to the new Combined Arms Center-Training podcast on “How the Army Training Network Works” at http://usacac.army.mil/cac2/podcasts/.

The Army Training Network is a great website. It is a one stop shop for most training requirements. It is one of the best military websites that is very easy to navigate. It allows soldiers to get the latest information on training. Allowing them to share information with other units and the ability to ask subject matter experts questions. I was introduced to this website in CGSC and have been telling my friends that will be future S3 about some of the tools. One tools that I worked with is the 1st Army’s Commander Training Tools for deploying soldiers. It has the latest SWT guidance and it breaks it down for you. It also provides tracking spreadsheets, task, condition, and standard with pubs and the class attached so we don’t have to keep recreating them. This website has also led me to a lot of other great resources that I will be using in the future. I wish I knew about this website when I was an S3 and I recommend it for all S3.

I believe the ATN is a very valuable tool for Soldiers, especially those in a position related to training for upcoming deployments. The ATN allows you to extrapolate the latest TTPs and experiences from recently deployed units and incorporate it into your own scenarios. This ensures that your exercises are as realistic as possible, and allows your Soldiers to focus on what has been the most pressing issue they will face in theater rather than matters that are now deemed superfluous. This ability to streamline training to allow for maximum benefit at minimum cost in the limited time available is a precious commodity that the ATN provides and is something that I wish I had known about as an XO and S3 Training/Operations officer.
