Major General Frederick S. Rudesheim

Maj. Gen. Frederick S. Rudesheim was born and raised in the Republic of Panama. A 1981 distinguished military graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, he was commissioned into the U.S. Army as an Infantry second lieutenant. His military education includes Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Army Command and General Staff College, School of Advanced Military Studies and the Army War College. He holds three master’s degrees in International Relations, Advanced Military Studies and Strategic Studies.

Maj. Gen. Rudesheim has served in a variety of command and staff assignments. He began his career as a platoon leader, scout platoon leader, and company executive officer in 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry, 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Aschaffenburg, Germany. At Fort Hood, Texas, he served as Division Assistant G-4 (Plans), Brigade Assistant S-3 (Operations), and Commander, Alpha Company, 2d Battalion, 41st Infantry, 2nd Armored Division.

Maj. Gen. Rudesheim served as a tactics instructor at the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, Fort Benning, Georgia. He served in Korea as Plans Officer, Combined Forces Command and S-3 (Operations) for 1st Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division. He served as Maneuver Observer Controller for Operations Group Bravo, Battle Command Training Program, Fort Leavenworth, Kan. He then served as commander, 1st Battalion, 9th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry, Fort Hood, Texas. Following command, he became the Senior Mechanized Infantry Task Force Trainer (Scorpion Team), National Training Center, Fort Irwin, Calif. His next operational assignment was as Commander, Operations Group Alpha, Battle Command Training Program, Fort Leavenworth, Kan. He then served as Commander, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, deploying in the initial phase of Operation Iraqi Freedom from April 2003 to March 2004. After command, he was Division Chief, Central, South America and the Caribbean and later, Deputy Director for Political Military Affairs (Western Hemisphere), J5, Joint Staff, Pentagon. Returning again to Fort Hood, Maj. Gen. Rudesheim was the Deputy Commander, III Corps (Rear), and Deputy Commanding General (DCG), 1st Cavalry, deploying to Iraq from February 2009 to January 2010 as Deputy Commanding General West, Multi-National Division-Baghdad. Most recently, Maj. Gen. Rudesheim was the Director of Joint Capability Development (J8) for U.S. Joint Forces Command and later as the Deputy Director, J7, Joint Staff, for Joint and Coalition Warfighting, Suffolk, Va.

Maj. Gen. Rudesheim’s awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal with an oak leaf cluster and "V" device. He has earned the Combat Infantryman, Expert Infantryman, Parachutist and Air Assault identification badges and is Ranger qualified.
