Validating Results

  • The Census Bureau will validate results obtained from the SynLBD on the internal, confidential version of these data
  • Researchers who wish to obtain validated results must follow the protocol outlined below
 

Validation Protocol

  • Submit an application to use the Synthetic Data Server (SDS), see Access the SynLBD
  • Researchers will receive a set of programming requirements to ensure successful program completion
  • After error free programs run on the SDS
  • Analyses will be reviewed by Census Bureau Disclosure Review Officers
  • Researchers should work with Census Bureau staff to allow time for review
  • Approved output is released to researchers and the Statistics of Income Program at the Inernal Revenue Service

 What is Synthetic Data?

Data that replicates the structure and statistical properties of the original confidential dataset, without using original content.


 What is the BDS?

The Business Dynamics Statistics (BDS) is a public–use data set of annual aggregate statistics describing establishment openings and closings, firm startups, job creation and destruction by firm size, age, industrial sector, and state.


 What is the
 VirtualRDC?

The Virtual RDC provides access to public–use data products and a computing environment that mirrors the Census Bureau RDCs.
