Subject: Upgrade of the NCEP Air Quality Forecast
System Effective January 31 2012
Effective Tuesday January 31, at 1200 coordinated Universal
Time (UTC), the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) will add
an operational product generated by the HYSPLIT model to its operational
product suite.
This
upgrade will expand operational prediction products to include predictions of
dust from dust storms over the CONUS from the 06 UTC and 12 UTC prediction cycles.
Once
operational the output from this transition will be available from the NWS
National Digital Guidance Database (NDGD) server at:
ftp://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/SL.us008001/ST.opnl/DF.gr2/DC.ndgd/GT.aq/AR.conus/
This
output is currently being generated as an experimental product from 06UTC and
12UTC prediction cycles at NCEP. These
data can be obtained from the experimental NDGD server at:
ftp://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/SL.us008001/ST.expr/DF.gr2/DC.ndgd/GT.aq/AR.conus/
The
file names for dust prediction products are:
-
ds.dustsdc01.bin: for concentration of dust in the air in
the lowest model
layer near the surface.
-
ds.dustvdc01.bin: for average concentration of dust in
the column of air between the surface and 5km altitude.
