Northern Illinois University's College of Engineering and Engineering Technology (CEET) is home to eight centers, each dedicated to in-depth research, development, teaching or professional development in a specific area. TRACC works in conjunction with one of these centers, the Traffic Safety Institute.
Department of Computer Science
Computer science as a formal discipline was initiated at Northern Illinois University in 1971. The undergraduate major programs — General Computer Science, Applied Computer Science, and Theoretical Computer Science — require mastery of key industrial programming languages and of the concepts of information technology. Intern and graduated students from the department are recruited by several major industries, including transportation, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, energy, food, banking and investment, retail, and information technology.
