The next big change in Air Force Basic training occurred in November of the year when training time expanded from 6.5 weeks to 8.5. The enhanced training program included more time for pre-deployment issues, integrated defense and self/aid/buddy care courses. The biggest addition was the Basic Expeditionary Airman Skill Training (BEAST) week long field training exercise the trainees engaged in. This training superseded "Warrior Week" which began in 1999.
