NPS/Chickasaw National Recreation Area
2009 TRT talks with a young Junior Ranger.
It is a goal of park staff to find more effective ways to bring classes to the park and the park into the classroom. Here are several opportunities for professional development that the park participates in:
Workshops and Outreach
For the summer of 2010, the park partnered with the Oklahoma Alliance for Geographic Education to offer the week-long "Teddy Roosevelt’s Dream: National Park Service Footprints in Oklahoma" workshop from June 27-July 1, 2010.
Teacher-Ranger-Teacher Program
Each summer Chickasaw National Recreation Area hosts a Teacher-Ranger-Teacher (TRT), who is selected to spend the summer in the park as uniformed National Park Ranger. Then, during the school year, the TRT brings the parks into their classroom through lessons that draw on their summer’s experience.
