ROUGH TERRAIN MISSION

57TH EN CO (A)(RT) rapidly deploys to conduct combat operations, provide mobility, counter-mobility, and general engineering support, to include forced entry operations into restricted terrain to construct HLZs and forward operation bases in support of Brigade Combat Teams and Special Operations Forces.

What is Rough Terrain Jumping?

ROUGH TERRAIN JUMPING provides the commander with the ability to insert engineers in uneven, wooded terrain devoid of a cleared drop zone or other austere environments in order to perform a variety of missions.

Missions include but are not limited to: clearing landing zones, developing hasty blocking positions, conducting deep engineer raids or supporting light infantry forces.

Rough terrain jumping is defined as a static line parachute operation onto an austere drop zone, wearing special equipment to protect the body and to safely lower the jumper who is hung in trees.
