DEFINITION
The repair parts (or supply support) concept briefly defines goals for repair parts to maximize sustainment and reduce logistics footprint and outlines how a determination will be made of the needed range, quantity and location of repair parts to support the required system availability under planned mission conditions.
GENERAL INFORMATION/NARRATIVE
PLAN REPAIR PARTS:
Consists of all management actions, procedures, and techniques necessary to determine requirements to acquire, catalog, receive, store, transfer, issue and dispose of spares, repair parts, and supplies. This means having the right spares, repair parts, and supplies available, in the right quantities, at the right place, at the right time, at the right price. The process includes provisioning for initial support, as well as acquiring, distributing, and replenishing inventories.Has a spare and repair parts determination been made? Are parts being procured or are they now available? Have spare and repair parts packaging, handling, and storage requirements been met? Do these requirements support the capabilities needed in the requirements documents? And is force development documentation included?
VALIDATE REPAIR PARTS:
DODI 5000.2 requires that analysis, T&E results, or independent reviews confirm the adequacy of the proposed maintenance plan and programmed support resources to meet objectives for peacetime readiness and wartime employment.
It also requires that the ability to support any system be demonstrated before the system is placed in the hands of the user. The Logistics Demonstration LD is conducted to confirm that support resources and tasks developed to sustain the system will function as intended. The LD data is supplemented by supportability related data obtained during developmental test and evaluation (DT&E) and OT&E to confirm the correct resources and tasks have been developed. AR 700–127 identifies the LD as a means for satisfying DOD requirements for all acquisition programs.
The LD is a validation process managed by the MATDEV. Maximum use should be made of existing qualitative and quantitative data such as when the item is used by another service, industry, or country. In order to minimize cost and schedule risk, existing qualitative and quantitative demonstrations, evaluations, analyses, simulations and testsshould be used to meet LD requirements.GEIA-STD-0007 Interface: H Entities, Provisioning and Cataloging Requirements. The "H" data Entities are used to document packaging/provisioning data requirements. Included in these Entities are static parts data (non-application dependent) related to provisioning screening and cataloging, packaging, handling, storage and common maintenance data. Also included under these data Entities are application data of items used to document the data required for initial support requirements determination, repair parts manuals, and design change information.
