Welcome to Gatlinburg, Tennessee
October 30 — November 3, 2011

The proceedings of the Conference on Computational Physics 2011 have been published online on December 20, 2012. The articles can be found at http://iopscience.iop.org/1742-6596/402/1.

Increasingly, computational physics stands alongside experiment and theory as an integral part of the modern approach to solving the great scientific challenges of the day – from cosmology and astrophysics, through climate science, to materials physics, and the fundamental structure of matter. Computational physics touches the most fundamental issues in science to the practicalities of delivering communications technologies and securing a clean and efficient energy future. The Conference on Computational Physics (CCP) is an annual international conference that is dedicated to presenting an overview of the most recent developments and opportunities in computational physics across a broad range of topical areas and from around the world. The CCP series has been in existence more that 20 years, alternating amongst the nations of the world divided (roughly) into Eastern, Central and Western zones with most recent ones being Ouro Preto, Brazil in 2008, Taiwan in 2009 and Trondheim, Norway in 2010. In 2011, the CCP will return to the Americas and will be held in the Gatlinburg, Tennessee, USA, during the period 30th October — 3rd November 2011.

The CCP 2011 program will be of interest to scientists across wide domains of computational physics including:

  • Materials/Condensed Matter Theory and Nano Science
  • Strongly Correlated Systems and Quantum Phase Transitions
  • Quantum Chemistry and Atomic Physics
  • High Energy Physics
  • Astrophysics and Plasma Physics
  • Complex Systems – Chaos and Statistical Physics
  • Climate Modeling
  • Biological Physics and Soft Materials
  • Supercomputing and Computational Physics Teaching
  • Computational Physics and Sustainable energy.

In order to emphasize the commonalties within these scientific domains and to facilitate cross fertilization the conference will be organized around the cross cutting themes of: Quantum many-body methods; Open quantum systems; Atomistic/Mesoscopic methods; Macroscopic transport, hydrodynamics and turbulent phenomena; Computational physics challenges in moving to a sustainable energy future; and Directions in computational physics from education to the cutting edge.
