The Fulbright Public Policy Fellowship is a component of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. It was inaugurated in 2012. The Fulbright Public Policy Fellowship allows fellows to serve in professional placements as "special assistants" in foreign government ministries or institutions and to gain hands-on public sector experience in participating foreign countries while simultaneously carrying out an academic research/study project. U.S. Embassies, Fulbright Commissions, and host country governments will coordinate appropriate professional placements for candidates in public policy areas including, but not limited to, public health, education, agriculture, justice, energy, environment, public finance, economic development, information technology, and communications.
Fulbright Public Policy Fellowships are available in Bangladesh, Burma, Côte d’Ivoire, Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Haiti, Kazakhstan, Malawi, Nepal and Samoa.

Public applications are accepted.To participate in the Fulbright Public Policy Fellowship, the applicant must be a U.S. citizen and have:
- a Master’s Degree, JD, or be currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program in a public policy applicable field.
- met the host country language requirements.
Note: Non-U.S. citizens who have legal permanent residency status in the United States are not eligible for any Fulbright grants.
