Alfred Wilson is recognized as a HealthierFeds Leader for his passion for health and fitness, extensive volunteer work in the NSF Fitness Facility, dedication to promoting employees' health improvement and his notable contribution to creating a healthier workplace.

Creating the Opportunity

Mr. Wilson's natural leadership has led to increased use of the NSF fitness facilities, as well as heightened awareness of the importance of healthy behaviors by agency employees. Serving as the Committee chair for the Facility, Mr. Wilson has gone above and beyond to ensure the Facility is pleasant, accessible, up-to-date and “user friendly”. Al's unselfish dedication and hard work have enabled him to pass his love of fitness and health onto the NSF staff.

The Tools for Success

Al's passion for fitness and health and his dream to spread this passion among his colleagues became concrete through his dedication of many unselfish hours of volunteer service. As the Committee Chair for the Fitness Facility and volunteer manager, Al worked to update the facility with new exercise equipment, and he created the NSF Fitness Facility logo and Web site. In addition, he instructs fellow NSF employees on proper equipment use and arranges and leads fitness seminars, workshops and classes.

Other significant contributions to employee health and wellness include service as Chair of the NSF Health Expo Committee, NSF Point-of-Contact for NSF participation in the 2004 HealthierFeds Physical Activity Challenge, and coordinator of the 2006 NSF Capital Challenge Team Race. He also established a unique program for his agency, the NSF Fitness Team Competition, a 6-week program that teams employees with one another to meet measured fitness goals.

The Fruits of His Labor

Al has been the driving force behind a notable increase in enthusiasm for and engagement in health and fitness initiatives, which has increased the morale at NSF. His excitement for health and fitness has created a healthy work environment for all NSF employees who make the choice to be involved.
