Will my Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments change if I enter a nursing home?
Residing in a nursing home can affect your SSI benefit but it depends on the type of facility and length of stay. You must notify Social Security when you enter or leave a nursing home, assisted living facility, hospital, skilled nursing facility or any other kind of institution. In many cases, your SSI payment will be reduced or stopped. However, there is a special rule if you will be in a facility for a short time.
