Important Notices and Recent Updates to the Guide for Aviation Medical Examiners

Updates have been made to the Guide for Aviation Medical Examiners, and include these specific changes:

• May 8, 2011 - Pharmaceutical pages have been revised and reorganized.
• March 11, 2011 - For ALL AMEs: clarification to verbiage regarding bipolar disorder and psychosis (Item 47, Aerospace Medical Dispositions) has been posted.
• March 2, 2011 - For ALL AMEs: New policy on the use of antidepressant medications has been posted.
• February 23, 2011 - In Aerospace Medical Dispositions, Item 52., Color Vision, clarify pass criterion for OPTEC 900 Vision Tester
• February 3, 2011 - New and important must defer criteria for Item 18. v.
• November 23, 2010 - New policy changes have been posted regarding hay fever medications (Item 26 and Item 35)
• October 29, 2010 - In Aerospace Medical Dispositions, Item 52. Color Vision, remove Titmus II Vision Tester (Model Nos.TII and TIIS) as an acceptable substitute for color vision testing.
• September 20, 2010 - In AASI Protocol for Arthritis, title is now Arthritis and/ or Psoriasis. Clarify authorization and deferral criteria.
• September 7, 2010 - Exam Techniques, Items 21 and 22, added CDC widget to compute Body Mass Index.
• June 15, 2010 - Medical Policy, Item 48, clarify disposition of hypo- and hyperthyroidism - updates have been posted.
• May 20, 2010 - Administrative, Item 47, Psychiatric Conditions, clarify Evaluation Data information - updates have been posted.
• March 18, 2010 - Binocular bifocal and binocular multifocal contact lens - updates have been posted.
• January 21, 2010 - Deferral and issuance criteria have been revised and clarified
  for Item 18. v. in the Applicant History section of the AME Guide.
• December 8, 2009 - The APT-5 Color Vision Tester is no longer approved. The manufacturer, LKC Technologies, Inc., has discontinued production and is no longer providing service support or replacements.
