Congressional Budget Office report dated June 2011.
This Congressional Budget Office (CBO) study, prepared at the request of the Senate
Committee on the Budget, projects the costs of the Department of Defense’s plan for national
defense for the years 2012 to 2030. The study is the latest in an annual series that CBO has
published for the past eight years. In particular, it updates the projections contained in CBO’s
Long-Term Implications of the Fiscal Year 2011 Defense Budget, published in February 2011.
In keeping with CBO’s mandate to provide objective, impartial analysis, this study makes
no recommendations. A future CBO study will examine the implications that possible constraints
on defense budgets might have for the future size, composition, and capabilities of the
military services....
