7/28/2012 - JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO - RANDOLPH, Texas (AFNS) -- Six dozen officers have been selected as intelligence squadron command candidates, Air Force Personnel Center officials announced here.

The intelligence career field development team met at AFPC in June to select the squadron command candidates, said Maj. Nicole Francis, intelligence officer assignments team.

Officers are vectored at various times throughout their careers to help them develop and prepare for positions of greater responsibility. Development teams consider every aspect of an officer's career, including demonstrated leadership, professional and career development, leadership potential, and whole-person factors.

"The intelligence field is critical to national defense, and officers selected for command must be committed, focused and ready for increasingly more demanding responsibilities," Francis said.

Being a candidate does not guarantee that a member will be selected for command, she explained. Those who are selected will assume their command during calendar year 2013. Candidates who are not matched to an intelligence command position will be recommended for 365-day extended deployment squadron command, Air Education and Training Command recruiting and training squadron command, as well as for Reserve Officer Training Corps detachment command opportunities.

The list posted here doesn't include the footnote on the official list. AFSCs are noted next to the names when the current duty AFSC is different from the core AFSC....i.e. the 14Ns annotated on the list are not currently serving in 14N jobs.

Sir - Only a few of the names on the list show AFSCs. I recognize names on the list that are 14N officers and don't have the 14N marking next to them so don't believe only nine of the candidates are 14Ns. I suspect the majority of them are indeed 14Ns while the rest are candidates simply because some Intel squadrons have a UMD with a non-intel officer as the commander.

Am I reading the candidate list correctly? There are only 9 out of 72 candidates that are 14Ns For the intelligence command positions It would seem we are still not properly vectoring/grooming our intel professionals if they apparently still can't compete for command positions in their own career field. Please tell me I am just misunderstanding the annotations on the candidate list.
