DON CIVILIAN COMMUNITY MANAGEMENT

This site offers a multitude of information about career management, and provides useful tools to help you manage your civilian career. It will provide you with information that can help you understand the concept of competency-based career management:

Community Management
  • A community identifies professional and technical competencies needed to perform work successfully. There are 22 DON Civilian Communities.
  • A competency is a measurable pattern of skills, abilities, behaviors, and other characteristics individuals need to perform work roles or occupational functions successfully.
  • Using competencies can help you prepare both short and long-term career goals and individual development plans with your immediate supervisor.

You can find your specific community by occupational code in the DON Civilian Community Table. Hint: If you don't know your series, you can find it on your Notification of Personnel Action (SF-50).
