The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program offers opportunities for American scholars, artists and professionals to conduct research, lecture, and/or consult with other scholars and institutions abroad.
The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program offers opportunities for foreign scholars, artists and professionals to conduct post-doctoral research and/or lecture in the U.S.
Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program
The Core Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program sends approximately 800 American scholars and professionals per year to approximately 130 countries, where they lecture and/or conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields. Applying: The application cycle is open from February until August 1, 2012 for grants in the 2013-2014 academic year. Fulbright Specialist Program
The Fulbright Specialist Program, a short-term complement to theFulbright U.S. Scholar Program, sends U.S. faculty and professionals to serve as expert consultants on curriculum, faculty development, institutional planning and related subjects at overseas academic institutions for a period of 2 to 6 weeks.
Applying: U.S. faculty and professionals may apply to join a Roster of Specialists for a 5 year term. Roster applications are reviewed four times per year. Requesting a Specialist: Universities and institutions outside the U.S. that wish to host a Fulbright Specialist submit project applications through the Fulbright Commission or U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Section in their countries: contact information by country.
Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program
Awards in the Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program are viewed as among the most prestigious appointments in the Fulbright Scholar Program. Candidates should be senior scholars and have a significant publication and teaching record. Applying: The application cycle is open from February until August 1, 2011 for grants in the 2012-2013 academic year. Fulbright New Century Scholars Program
The Fulbright New Century Scholars Program supports a select group of U.S. and foreign scholars to conduct international, interdisciplinary, collaborative research on a specific topic of global importance. The Fulbright New Century Scholars Program is not accepting applications at this time.
Fulbright NEXUS Program
The Fulbright Regional Network for Applied Research (NEXUS) Program brings together a network of junior scholars, professionals and mid-career applied researchers from the United States and other Western Hemisphere nations for a series of three seminar meetings and a Fulbright exchange experience. The Fulbright NEXUS Program is not accepting applications at this time.
Fulbright German Studies Seminars
The Fulbright German Studies Seminars examine the political, social and economic institutions of Germany. Each seminar has a specific thematic focus. Fulbright Scholar Alumni Ambassador Program
Fulbright Scholar Alumni Ambassadors are a select group of Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program alumni who serve as representatives for the Fulbright program at campus workshops and academic conferences across the United States.
Administration
The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program is administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) on behalf of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. While abroad, Fulbright U.S. scholars are supported by Fulbright Commissions and/or U.S. Embassies.
Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program
The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program provides grants to approximately 850 foreign scholars from over 100 countries to conduct post-doctoral research at U.S. institutions from an academic semester to a full academic year. Travel grants to accept guest lecturing invitations from other U.S. institutions may also be available to Fulbright Visiting Scholars already in the U.S. through the Occasional Lecturer Fund.
Fulbright NEXUS Program

Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Program
The Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (SIR) Program enables U.S. colleges and universities to host foreign academics to lecture on a wide range of subject fields for a semester or academic year. Preference is given to institutions developing an international agenda and/or serving a minority audience, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic Serving Institutions, Tribal Colleges, small liberal arts colleges, and community colleges. Approximately 50 grants are awarded annually.
Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program for Iraq
The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program for Iraq brings Iraqi scholars in selected fields to U.S. institutions for approximately three months of faculty development, research, and other guided study activities designed to equip them with knowledge and tools to build the capacity of universities in Iraq, and to advance the education of future generations of Iraqis.
Fulbright Vietnam Economics Teaching Program
The Fulbright Vietnam Economics Teaching Program provides funding for Vietnamese government and business officials to attend two years of study at the Fulbright School in Vietnam and acquire a Master of Arts in Public Policy or participate in a one-year program in Applied Economics.
