2/27/12: Substitute Teacher Pleads Guilty to Child Pornography Charges

Timothy Bek, a former substitute teacher for the West Seneca Central School District pled guilty to both producing and possessing child pornography on February 6, 2012. The Western New York RCFL (WNYRCFL) provided digital forensics expertise to investigators. Bek was arrested on June 2, 2011 as a result of an investigation conducted by the FBI Buffalo's Cyber Task Force which includes representatives from two of its participating agencies, the Buffalo Police Department and Niagara County Sheriff's Office, in addition to the FBI and the Cheektowaga Police Department.

The WNYRCFL examined digital media seized during the investigation which revealed Bek used a fake Facebook account to entice minors, including students from his school district, to send him explicit images of themselves. Authorities believe Bek may have blackmailed the victims into sending the explicit images.

Timothy Bek's brother, Jason Bek, pleaded guilty in December 2011 to coercion of a minor for working with his brother to solicit pictures. Timothy Bek faces a prison sentence of 15 years to life when he's sentenced in May 2012 plus a possible fine.
