4/27/11: Houston Sex Offender Convicted
The Greater Houston RCFL (GHRCFL) supported the successful prosecution of a Houston man who had more than 560 videos of child pornography on his home computer. Bart Hughes, 58, was convicted after requesting a trial before U.S. District Judge Gray Miller, of one count each of distributing and possessing child pornography.
Examiner Sgt. Michael Wills, on assignment to the GHRCFL from the Houston Police Department, examined Hughes' computer where he discovered the illegal videos. According to a 4/21/11 FBI press release, Hughes distributed child pornography images using peer-to-peer software on his home computer. He faces a minimum of 15 years and a maximum of 40 years in federal prison for distributing child pornography, 20 years maximum for possessing child pornography, a maximum fine of $250,000, and must register as a sex offender. Hughes is currently in jail waiting for his sentencing scheduled for July 2011.
