The Department of the Navy maintains several pay systems that cover approximately 220,000 civilian Federal employees in a variety of occupations and positions:

- Non-Appropriated Funds
- Administratively Determined
- Demonstration Projects
- Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System
- Senior Executive Service
The General Schedule and Federal Wage System cover the majority of DON employees. Each pay system has its own pay tables and pay-setting rules.
