Self-Guided

Online

Trainings

You asked for it and we did it for you!  Now, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, you can access our newest Self-Guided Online Trainings on our NEW Self-Guided Trainings page.

What are self-guided online trainings?  These are our Power Point presentations that we use in real time trainings.  You take the time to go through them at your leisure, your own pace, when it’s convenient for you, day or night.  If it takes you an hour or a week, you decide how fast you want to go through the trainings.  Imagine relaxing after a hard day of work, the kids are finally asleep, and you finally have time to do some surfing on the web.  Take as much time as you need to review and learn the information.

Why are we doing self-guided online trainings?  Louisiana Parent Training and Information Center is part of a network of Parent Training and Information Centers across the country.  Data has proven that many parents of children with disabilities are surfing the web when typical offices are closed.  Many are doing the self-guided trainings and other type of online trainings after midnight.  This is just another way for us to bring you valuable information at your convenience.

What if I have questions after doing the self-guided online trainings?  That’s as easy as picking up the phone or e-mailing us.  We are still here to help.  Our online trainings are not designed to replace the personal touch of an advocate.  The purpose is to bring you trainings at times that are convenient for you.  You are always welcome to contact our office during normal business hours and ask to speak to an advocate.  If it’s 2:00 in the morning and you are afraid you’ll forget to call, just send us an e-mail at 2:00 a.m.

Would you like to see more of these?  Just send us an e-mail at info@laptic.org with “Self-Guided Trainings” in the subject line and let us know what other topics you’d like to see.  We are here for you and want to provide you with information that will help you become a better advocate for your child.

Our Philosophy

Louisiana Parent Training and Information Center (LaPTIC):

•  Believes that parents have unique information about the development, nature, and needs of their children, and advocates that parents be recognized as partners in the planning and implementing of their children's education.

•  Is committed to providing training to parents, professionals, and students with disabilities.

•  Supports the inclusion of people with disabilities in the community, enjoying the same early childhood, educational and employment opportunities and experiences as their peers without disabilities.

•  Is committed to empowering parents and people with disabilities so that they can advocate for themselves.

Our History

•  In 1986, Project PROMPT was first funded by a grant from the United States Department of Education.

•  In 1991, the statewide Families Helping Families Resource Network was established. Nine regional, private, nonprofit, parent-directed organizations were created to provide information and referral, education and training, and one-to-one support for families of persons with disabilities.

•  On July 1, 2007 the Families Helping Families Resource Network opened their tenth center in New Orleans called Families Helping Families of Southeast LA. The office formerly known as Families Helping Families of Greater New Orleans was later renamed to Families Helping Families of Jefferson. To learn more about Families Helping Families of Jefferson, visit their website at www.fhfjefferson.org.

•  In 2008 Project PROMPT's name was changed to Louisiana Parent Training and Information Center .
