Los cables cerca de la cuna de su bebé son peligrosos.
Dan ganas de poner el monitor en la cuna. Padres que han dado su opinión en el Internet acerca de monitores con video han reportado que colocan los monitores en el borde de la cuna para obtener una imagen en primer plano de su niño mientras duerme: Lea algunos ejemplos:
“No quisimos poner un tornillo permanente en el borde de la cuna, entonces fijé la base de la cámara al extremo de la cuna con cinta adhesiva transparente, lo cual supongo que funciona por el momento”.
“Nuestro monitor para bebés … se rompió cuando nuestro pequeño consiguió tumbarlo de su cuna”.
“Para vigilar a su hijo de cerca (por ejemplo, ver si él o ella está o no respirando) necesita estar bastante cerca de él/ella (nosotros simplemente lo ponemos en el borde de la cuna)…”.
NO coloque cámaras de video o monitores receptores de movimiento o audio con cables en las cunas o las barandas de las cunas. Algunos pequeños se han estrangulado y muerto tras enredarse en cables, como este:
Desde el 2002 la CPSC sabe de 7 muertes y 3 de semiestrangulaciones asociadas a monitores para bebés. Estos informes incluyen monitores de audio, video y movimiento. La CPSC ha recibido además reportes de al menos una decena de otros incidentes en los que bebés y niños pequeños tuvieron acceso a monitores o cables de monitores, que se encontraban en la cuna o lo suficientemente cerca de esta para que un niño pequeño pudiera alcanzarlos.
Algunos monitores tienen etiquetas de advertencia permanentes en el producto o en el cable. Otros, como los monitores para bebés con video de cables Summer Infant, no tienen una etiqueta de advertencia llamativa en la cámara o en el cable.
Mantenga siempre TODOS los cables y partes del monitor fuera del alcance de bebés y niños pequeños. Tenga en cuenta colocarlos a unos 3 pies de distancia de todas las partes de la cuna – por arriba, por debajo y por los cuatro lados.
Cuando compre un monitor con cámara de video, busque uno que pueda captar la imagen desde lejos. Cuanto más lejos estén la cámara y su cable de su bebé o niño pequeño, más seguro estará su hijo. Si utiliza un monitor de movimiento, asegúrese de que los cables estén tensos y no cuelguen, para reducir el riesgo de estrangulación. Las instrucciones del fabricante muestran a los padres cómo manipular los cables.
La CPSC insta a los padres y cuidadores a revisar de inmediato la ubicación de los monitores de sus bebés, incluyendo aquellos que estén montados en la pared, para asegurarse de que los cables eléctricos se encuentran fuera del alcance del niño. Verifique esa ubicación periódicamente para asegurarse de que los cables se mantengan fuera del alcance según vaya creciendo su hijo.
