McMorris Rodgers Statement on the Introduction of the "Require a PLAN Act"

February 1, 2013

WASHINGTON - House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) today issued the following statement today after Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) introduced the “Require a PLAN Act,” which will hold the president accountable to producing a balanced budget:

“Hardworking taxpayers have to live on a budget every day – responsibly deciding how much to spend and how much to save so they can live within their means. Yet President Obama and Senate Democrats have failed to bring forward a plan to put Washington on a budget that controls spending. That’s why House Republicans support the ‘Require a PLAN Act,’ which will finally force President Obama to submit a budget that estimates when the deficit will be eliminated. This week we learned the consequences of out-of-control government spending – a shrinking economy, stagnant job growth, and plummeting consumer confidence.

“A budget matters to seniors who rely on their benefits, to middle-class Americans who can’t afford to see their taxes go up, and to children whose futures will be limited if Washington does not live within it means. Continuing to spend money we don't have is unfair to our children and the next generation.

“President Obama owes hardworking taxpayers his vision for balancing the budget. It’s time to put Washington on a sustainable path toward a balanced budget that expands opportunities for all Americans. It’s time to make sure our children are not burdened by debt. It’s time to require a plan.”
