One month from today on June 17th families across the U.S. will celebrate Father’s Day.  Last year, HUD put a new twist on this American celebration when we asked the nation’s 3,200 public housing authorities to host events on the Saturday before the actual holiday that brought together fathers and their children who live in public housing. It’s that time again to get ready for Father’s Day 2012 on Saturday, June 16.

This HUD initiative reconnects families – specifically children and their fathers. Current statistics show that the majority of children who live in public housing do not have fathers present.  Father’s Day 2012 will be a day to celebrate fatherhood, family and provide opportunities to help dads stay connected with their children.  The local offices of other federal agencies, including the U.S. Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, Agriculture, Education and Justice, as well as national organizations such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of America are already working with HUD and local housing authorities to offer on-site information and services.  For more information go to Reconnecting Families and Dads.
