Commander and Conductor

CW3 W. Scott MacDonald is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He received a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA in 1988 and a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance from Youngstown State University in 1990 and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Music Education at Boston University. Prior to enlisting in the Army, CW3 MacDonald was a public school teacher in the Pittsburgh area.
In 1992, CW3 MacDonald attended Basic Training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. He then attended Advanced Individual Training at the Armed Forces School of Music at Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base, Norfolk, VA. Upon accelerating from the Basic Music Course, he was assigned as a Trumpet player with the Continental Army Band at Ft. Monroe, VA from 1993-1995. In 1995, CW3 MacDonald went on to become a member of the U.S. Military Academy Band at West Point, NY. While at West Point, CW3 MacDonald was a Bugler with the band’s field music group, the “Hellcats”, and a member of the Highlands Brass Quintet. In 1998, CW3 MacDonald was assigned to the Army Ground Forces Band at Ft. McPherson in Atlanta, GA. While there he served as the Principal Trumpet for the Concert Band and NCOIC of the Brass Quintet.
In 2001, CW3 MacDonald was selected to become a Warrant Officer Bandmaster. He attended Warrant Officer Candidate School at Ft. Rucker, AL and the Warrant Officer Basic Course at the Armed Forces School of Music in 2002. From 2003 to 2005 he served as Commander and Conductor of the U.S. Army Signal Corps Band at Fort Gordon, Georgia. From 2005-2008, CW3 MacDonald became the Commander and Conductor of the 1st Infantry Division Band, first in Bamberg, Germany and then at Ft. Riley, Kansas when the “Big Red One” returned to the United States in the summer of 2006. CW3 MacDonald is currently serving as the Commander and Conductor of the 282nd Army Band at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina.
CW3 MacDonald’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (1 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (3 OLC), the Good Conduct Medal (3rd Award), the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. CW3 MacDonald is a member of the College Band Directors National Association, Music Educators National Conference, and the South Carolina Music Educators Association.

First Sergeant

First Sergeant Chapman entered the Army in 1989 and attended Basic Training at Fort Dix, NJ and AIT at the United States Army Element School of Music at Littlecreek, VA. His assignments include the 298th Army Band, Berlin, Germany, the 14th Army Band, Fort McClellan, AL, the 82nd Airborne Division Band, Fort Bragg, NC, the Eight Army Band, South Korea, and the 3rd Infantry Division Band, Fort Stewart, GA. He is currently assigned as the First Sergeant of the 282nd Army Band at Fort Jackson, SC.

His recent deployments include OIF I, OIF III and OIF V.

His awards and decorations include 3 Bronze Star Medals, 2 Meritorious Service Medals, 3 Army Commendation Medals, 8 Army Achievement Medals, 6 Good Conduct Medals, the Army of Occupation Medal (Berlin), 2 National Defense Service Medals, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal (4 Campaign Stars), the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Service Medal, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 3), the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 4), the NATO Medal, and the Senior Parachutist Badge.
