Marines are men and women of diverse cultures, ethnicities and lifestyles who volunteer to serve in the armed forces for many different reasons. What varies even more are the life experiences each Marine brings with them to the Corps.

Marines recently displayed their unique ability to go wherever they are needed with short notice during relief efforts in New York. This video is a look back on their achievement in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

When he was 16 years old, he was a supervisor at a scrap-metal yard, and he served as the captain for his high school wrestling team. Today, he's a sergeant in the Marine Corps and a youth basketball coach.

Marines with 12th Marine Regiment received assault amphibious vehicle (AAV) familiarization training with members of Combat Assault Battalion Jan. 24 in the North Fuji Maneuver Area at Combined Arms Training Center Camp Fuji on mainland Japan.

Two days before 100 of the country's top high school football athletes battled it out on the football field at the 2013 Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl, they met in the community parks of Carson and Long Beach to mentor children from the area.

Marines are always making headlines for their uncompromising dedication to serving others, both at home and abroad. GySgt Tawanda "Tee" Hanible is one such Marine, whose inspiring story sparked national interest and led to a feature article in the Heroes Edition of Newsweek Magazine that hit newsstands this past November.

As Marines traverse through the dense jungle, they stumble upon a 70-foot-wide trench approximately 50-feet-deep. Without hesitation, the Marines pull out a 100-foot rope and lower a Marine down to cross the trench and start building a one-rope bridge.

Fatigue consumed their bodies as their muscles trembled and minds strained while they made their way through an obstacle course during the night's darkness.

A mortarman turned squad leader plans to use his experiences gained while deployed to teach new Marines as a combat instructor.

Marines with 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, which is currently assigned to 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, under the unit deployment program, conducted hasty rappel training at JWTC on Camp Gonsalves Jan. 8 as part of a nine-day course Jan. 7-15.
