Runyan seeks to stop unofficial grave-site reservations at Arlington

Army policy has prohibited reservations at the nation's hallowed cemetery since 1962, but Runyan and other lawmakers want a ban on the practice put into law after reports that scores of unofficial reservations had been made over the last four decades. Under a bill sponsored by Runyan...only reservations made before the 1962 policy change would be honored. It also would require the Army to investigate the number of plots set aside in defiance of the policy...“Today, we begin the process of rebuilding trust with how this treasured national shrine manages burial reservations,” Runyan said in a statement Thursday. “Veterans’ families throughout the country can begin to believe in the process once again. Implementation of this legislation will ensure that all eligible veterans have an equal chance and opportunity to be laid to rest, and it ensures that no veteran is given preferential treatment.”
