ADCIRC is a system of computer programs for solving time dependent, free surface circulation and transport problems in two and three dimensions. These programs utilize the finite element method in space allowing the use of highly flexible, unstructured grids. Typical ADCIRC applications have included:

  • prediction of storm surge and flooding
  • modeling tides and wind driven circulation
  • larval transport studies
  • near shore marine operations
  • dredging feasibility and material disposal studies

Coastal Hazards Center is offering a Graduate Student Fellowship in Coastal Hazards.  More information given here and here.

PostDoc Opportunity:  Postdoctoral Research Scholar in coastal engineering, physical oceanography, or other closely related discipline wanted at UNC-Institute of Marine Sciences in Morehead City, NC.  To apply send a CV and a statement of interest to Dr. Rick Luettich

There is an ADCIRC listserv that may be useful to keep up-to-date about the latest releases of ADCIRC and to post any questions about ADCIRC.  It is adcirc@listserv.unc.edu. If you would like to join please email Crystal Fulcher.

If you are an academic/governmental researcher who would like to request  ADCIRC or have questions about requesting ADCIRC, please email Crystal Fulcher.

Conditions for obtaining the code are the following (i) that it is used for research or education purposes, (ii) that ADCIRC is identified by name in publications, and (iii) that individuals do not redistribute ADCIRC but rather have interested parties email Crystal Fulcher to obtain the code.
