TPL Properties: Laying the Groundwork for More Business Activity in Pakistan |
Site: Pakistan
Sector: Infrastructure
Challenge: Pakistan’s capital city of Karachi has 18 million people but almost no commercial real estate. This lack of office space has limited Pakistan’s ability to attract business investors.
Solution: TPL Properties will use a $20 million loan from OPIC to build a 28-story office building.
Impact: The new office building, which is expected to be completed in 2012, has attracted interest from a range of businesses from oil and gas to mobile technology, and will help bring more professional jobs to Karachi.
“We all know that, in order to attract business, you need to have infrastructure solidly in place,“ OPIC President and CEO Elizabeth Littlefield said at a 2011 signing ceremony in Washington D.C.
