EPA Web Accounts Audit
MEMORANDUM
SUBJECT: |
EPA Web Accounts Audit |
FROM: |
Elaine Stanley, Director
Office of Information Analysis and Access |
TO: |
Agency Office Directors |
It is time once again to re-authorize the designation of staff who have
direct access to your Web areas. As the Office Director or regional equivalent
you are the official who is responsible for the content and quality of
the material posted in your Web area. Verifying that only authorized staff
have access to the Web is important in ensuring that our Web site is properly
managed and that accountability and access controls are in place. After
reviewing the attached report regarding the pages in your Web area, please
reply by August 30, 2002 to us at group web-requests@epa.gov and copy
your ADP coordinator verifying:
- you are responsible for the Web area and want to maintain it,
- you authorize the people listed to have access to update the your
Web area, and
- the area is of suitable content and quality for your audience and
is accessible per Section 508,
http://intranet.epa.gov/accessibility.
After you complete your nomination we will, with the help of your ADP
coordinators, update our records and allow only those you nominate to
have access to your Web area. Failure to comply could result in loss of
access to your TSSMS accounts.
The report from OIAA regarding your Web area summarizes:
- Web area name, subordinate pages, directories, aliases and alternative
names for the area. (Please note any which you don't manage or need.)
- The description of your Web area. Please update the description, as
appropriate.
- The two (or more) people authorized for access to your area. Please
provide bona fide operational reasons to justify the increased security
risk of allowing access to more than two people.
- Types, numbers, and ages of files. This assists in assessing the extent
and currency of your Web area.
- Disk storage usage information. A large amount of unused disk space
suggests inefficient practices, and an empty area is an attractive target
for hackers. A small amount of unused disk space may indicate the need
for more space for new files.
If any information
in the report is inaccurate, please notify us of your corrections. I invite
you to discuss this information with your staff so you know the current
operations of these Web areas.
Submitting your reply by August 30, 2002
Send your reply to group
web-requests@epa.gov and copy your ADP coordinator(s). He/She will
make access changes to your Web area (TSSMS). If you forward the report
to your staff for action, please be sure that your reply to us comes from
your e-mail box, as the manager of record.
