Chief of Staff to Secretary of the Treasury

Mark A. Patterson has served as Chief of Staff to Secretary of the Treasury Timothy F. Geithner since January 21, 2009. In this position Mr. Patterson assists the Secretary in overseeing the day-to-day management of Treasury Department staff and programs.
Before joining Treasury, Mr. Patterson served as Senate Confirmation Coordinator for the Obama-Biden Presidential Transition Project, and before that he was a volunteer for the Obama-Biden presidential campaign.
Mr. Patterson was a Vice President at Goldman Sachs from 2004 to 2007, and a Managing Director from 2007 to April 2008.
Mr. Patterson spent the bulk of his career as a U.S. Senate staff member. From 1999 to 2004, he served as Policy Director for Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle. Before that he was for more than 10 years an aide to the late Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan of New York, serving from 1995 to 1999 as Democratic Staff Director and Chief Counsel of the Senate Finance Committee, and from 1993-1995 as Senator Moynihan's Legislative Director. Mr. Patterson also served as Senator Moynihan's Special Assistant from 1984 to 1988.
Mr. Patterson is a 1984 graduate of the State University of New York at Albany, and he received his law degree from the Catholic University of America in 1990. He is a member of the bar of the District of Columbia and of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Mr. Patterson is married to Jennifer S. Leete, an attorney and branch chief in the Enforcement Division of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
