DoDDS Korea District Superintendent Office Announces New Assistant Principal of Seoul American High School

January 12, 2011 — The DoDDS Korea District Office is pleased to announce the selection of Ms. Kimberly Smaw as the new assistant principal of Seoul American High School. Ms. Smaw was born in Manhattan, New York. After graduating from high school, Ms. Smaw attended the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale New York, where she received a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Elementary Education and Sociology with a minor in Social Work.

Upon earning her undergraduate degree, she attended the Center for Montessori Teacher Education located in New Rochelle, New York, where she received a Montessori Teaching Certificate. She began her teacher career in the Yonkers, New York Public Schools in 1994.

In 1997, Ms. Smaw received a Masters Degree in Urban and Multicultural Education with a concentration in ESL from the College of Mount Saint Vincent. In 2002, Ms. Smaw received a K-12 School Administration Certification from the Pennsylvania State University in State College, Pennsylvania.

Ms. Smaw has held teaching assignments that have spanned from elementary through high school, federal detention, NATO and Immigration Migrant Operations (IMO). Additionally, she served as an Adjunct Professor at the College of Mount Saint Vincent. Since 1999, Ms. Smaw has experiences in three DoDDS regions; The Americas, Europe and Korea respectively.

Ms. Smaw leaves her current teaching assignment as the Literacy and ESL Specialist at Daegu American School where she is also the Chair of the Continuous School Improvement Committee.  Additionally, she has held numerous leadership roles at DAS to include SAC.

Ms. Smaw is married and they have three children. She enjoys reading, trying new Asian cuisine and spending time with family, and friends.
