The DoDEA Pacific Public Affairs Office initiates and manages DoDEA's communications and outreach efforts for the Pacific to include Guam, Japan, Okinawa, South Korea. The office is responsible for media relations, internal information programs and communication with students, parents, teachers, school administrators and the public.

TORII STATION, OKINAWA , JAPAN — March 24, 2008 — Nine teams and two individuals competed in this year's 2008 DoDDS State MATHCOUNTS competition.
Seoul American Middle School earned the number one spot in the Team category. Members of the team were: Jay Han, Kate Park, Michelle Roh, and Jenna Weida. The team was coached by Kathee Lewis and Claire Park.
Michelle Roh also placed second in the Individual category and will represent DoDDS at the National Competition in Denver, Colorado along with three other students from Europe. Kathee Lewis, one of the coaches from Seoul Middle School, will serve as the coach of the DoDDS team at Nationals. Kate Park and Shawn Yi from Seoul American High School placed fifth and sixth in the Individual category, respectively.
The competition consists of three official rounds: The Sprint Round is where each individual (whether part of a team or not) answers 30 questions in 40 minutes. In the Target Round, each individual (whether part of a team or not) answers four sets of two questions in 6 minutes for each set. Finally, in the Team Round, the team answers 10 questions in 20 minutes. MATHCOUNTS is a nationwide math coaching and competition program designed to improve math skills among U.S. students. Over six million students across the U.S. have participated in the MATHCOUNTS program.
