General Panel Execution Procedures:
- Panelists will send their major talking points and a biography no later than Wednesday, 13 June, to the Panel Moderator, other panelists, and Mr. Jeff Hoing to assist in the preparation for the panel. Each panelist will also provide 3 "starter questions" that the Moderator can ask if there are few audience questions.
- Panel Moderator, Chair and Panelist roles and responsibilities:
- The Moderator will introduce the panel topic and purpose. The Moderator will scope the panel by giving a brief biography / introduction of
each panelist and a description of what they will talk about. This will set the stage and scope the topic for the audience.
- The Moderator will then allow each panel member 5-8 minutes to provide
initial remarks. The Chair will begin, followed by the other panelists.
Panelist remarks should provide a brief understanding of your key points for
the panel topic. This should be based on your perspective / duty position
but can be expanded based upon your experience. The remarks should answer,
"What is most important for the symposium and Army audiences to hear from
your foxhole?" They should be adapted for the anticipated comments from the
other panelists. We will coordinate some virtual panel preparation sessionsthe week of 11 June to help with this synchronization.
- At the completion of the initial remarks, the Moderator will facilitate a question and answer period for the remainder of the panel time.
- Audience questions will come to the Moderator on question cards that are available at the end of each row of seats. An AUSA representative
will collect the question cards and provide them to the panel Moderator who will screen the cards and use the questions to prompt continued discussion.
- The Moderator will use the panelist provided 3 "starter questions" if there
are few audience questions or to help guide the discussion. Panelists
should use their initial remarks to focus on what they consider most
important for the Army and the audience. The 3 "starter questions" should
facilitate a more detailed discussion on these topics or to cover other
important topics that could not incorporated into the initial remarks due to
time or priority. The panel moderator or chair may ask follow-on questions
at their discretion to fully explore key issues - they are not bound by audience or "starter questions."
- Depending upon the flow of the discussion, the Moderator will allow each panelist the opportunity to make some closing comments. This is
tentatively set to begin with 10 minutes remaining in the panel. The Moderator will then close the panel.
