Veterinary Treatment Facility
The Camp Humphreys Veterinary Treatment Facility (VTF) is operated by Team 3 of the 106th Medical Detachment (VS). The team has three primary missions: 1. Veterinary Care for Military Working Dogs (MWDs) located at Camp Humphreys & Kunsan AB; 2. Food Safety & Food Defense; and 3. Veterinary Care for Privately Owned Animals (POAs)
The Camp Humphreys Veterinary Treatment Facility offers routine veterinary care including vaccinations, sick call, microchipping, health certificate examinations, dental cleaning, and routine surgeries.
Services provided by the Camp Humphreys VTF include:
Registration: USKF Regulation 40-5 requires all pet owners under SOFA to register their pets at the nearest VTF within 10 days upon arrival in South Korea or within 10 days of acquiring a pet in South Korea, whether they live on or off post. Registration can be done during business hours without the pet or an appointment.
Microchipping: USFK Regulation 40-5 requires all cats and dogs of owners under the SOFA to be microchipped. Most military installations and countries require pets to be microchipped. The microchip contains a unique number to your pet that is linked to your contact information in an online database.
Vaccination: Kittens and puppies should receive their first vaccine around 6-8 weeks of age with 1-2 booster vaccines every 3-4 weeks. At 12-16 weeks of age, they can receive their first rabies vaccination. This first rabies vaccine is good for 1 year only.
Surgery: Routine surgeries including spays, neuters, basic mass removals, dental cleanings and extractions, and other select surgeries are offered at the Camp Humphreys VTF. Animals must be registered, current on all vaccinations, microchipped, and have been seen at the Camp Humphreys VTF within the last year to be eligible for surgery.
Testing/Laboratory: Heartworm testing is currently recommended annually for all dogs. A monthly heartworm preventative is highly recommended for all dogs and cats. Feline leukemia/immunodeficiency test may be recommended for high risk cats as determined by the veterinarian. Routine bloodwork, urinalysis, fecal exams to test for parasites, and additional laboratory testing is available either in house or via a laboratory in the United States.
Retail Sales: The VTF has many retail and prescription veterinary care products available for purchase including heartworm prevention pills, flea and tick prevention, special diets, shampoos, ear cleansers, multivitamins, etc.
Pet Adoption: There are no pets available for adoption at the Camp Humphreys VTF. If you are interested in adopting a pet, please contact the Homeward Bound Animal Shelter located on Osan AB.
PCSing w/ Pets: The vet clinic has partnered with Army Community Services (ACS) to provide a monthly PCSing with Pets class. The workshop is designed to provide information to our clients when it comes time for them to PCS with their pets. Watch the monthly MWR Happenings, Garrison Notes, and Facebook for future dates and times.
