The Second Public Call for Proposals for the Private Sector Window is open from October 29, 2012 to December 14, 2012. During this time, the International Finance Corporation is accepting proposals from private sector firms and financial institutions operating in eligible, low-income countries seeking financial support.

On October 12, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner pledged additional support for the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP), announcing that the United States is prepared to contribute $1 to GAFSP for every $2 committed by other donors, up to a total U.S. contribution of $475 million.

In Rwanda, the use of diseased plants and old seedlings has contributed to a serious decline in the country’s production of pyrethrum, a plant used as a natural insecticide. The local production of pyrethrum in Rwanda today amounts to roughly one quarter of what it was 30 years ago.
