The Law School Education Debt Subsidy, or LSEDS as it is commonly known, was created in 2002 as a way to stay competitive in recruiting with the three other service JAG Corps and to help alleviate the heavy burden of student loan debt faced by the average Marine judge advocate.
LSEDS is primarily designed to keep a sufficient number of quality judge advocates in the Marine Corps. A judge advocate that accepts this program will receive five (5) yearly payments of $10,000 each for a total of $50,000, beginning at the completion of the officer’s initial active duty service obligation. A judge advocate can qualify for LSEDS program provided that the officer 1) accepts career designation and 2) agrees to an additional five (5) year service obligation.
