Warrant Officer Candidate School - WOCS

Warrant Officer Candidate School

The mission of the Warrant Officer Candidate School is to educate, train, and inspire candidates so that each graduate is an officer who is a leader of character committed to doing what is right legally, morally, and ethically both on or off duty. An officer who is committed to professional growth through life-long learning; and who embraces the requirements of selfless service to subordinates, superiors, our Nation, and the Constitution. Training, Advising, and Counseling (TAC) Officers along with academic instructors prepare, coach, teach, mentor, train, advise plus counsel candidates, preparing them to assume responsibilities of a U.S. Army officer. They will also identify those candidates who fail to achieve the academic, leadership, discipline, character, physical, and mental standards expected of an Army Warrant Officer.

There are experiential learning events throughout the program, particularly warrior tasks and battle drills related activities that provide leadership opportunities while emphasizing lessons relevant to the OE. These activities are incorporated within a one-week field leadership exercise (FLX). This key event provides candidates expanded opportunities to apply flexible, adaptive leadership principles in stressful, sometimes ambiguous, situations to reinforce and build upon previous classroom theory studies and discussion.

PREPARE PHYSICALLY! You will participate in daily physical training to include weekly foot marches up to 10K. Condition yourself in advance and bring comfortable boots (TC 3-22.20, Army Physical Readiness Training, and FM 21-18, Foot Marches, are good references). Also, during the summer months and into the fall you can expect high temperatures and humidity in lower Alabama.

WOCS Requirements and special instructions are found in the welcome letter and accompanying orientation packet.  The packet includes:

  • A checklist for candidates.
  • Physical requirements.
  • Security clearance requirements.
  • Relocating family for those who will attend flight school.
  • Uniform issue for inter-service transfers.
  • Packing lists for required items.
  • A list of prohibited items.

If you have any additional questions, please contact Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 334-255-1287/1967 or DSN 558-1287/1967.

  • For questions regarding Phase 1 (DL), contact the WOCS (DL) manager, 334-255-1326 or DSN 558-1326.

Phase 1 of WOCS is available as either distributed learning (DL) or resident training.

Phase 1 (DL).  There is only one Phase 1 (DL) class scheduled each year, covering the entire training year.  Once you have been enrolled in ATRRS for Course 911-09W (DL), see the instructions for DL enrollment at http://usacac.army.mil/cac2/wocc/WOCSEnrollment.asp.

1.  NCOs who are fully qualified/selected (FQS) and fall into one of the following categories are required to complete the Phase 1 (DL) instead of the resident
Phase 1.

a.  Be at least an Army or USMC E-5 or above prior to entering the program and a graduate of the WLC/PLDC (or equivalent), or

b.  USAF, USN, or USCG in the grade of E5 or above, who have previously completed Army or USMC basic training, and are graduates of the WLC/PLDC (or equivalent).

c.  All others must attend the resident Phase 1.

2.  Phase 1 (DL) must be completed within 180 days from enrollment, but not later than 14 days prior to attending resident WOCS Phase 2 at Fort Rucker or ARNG Regional Training Institute (RTI) locations, whichever occurs first.

Phase 1 Resident.  Those with a reserved seat in a resident Phase 1 class should also have a reservation in the corresponding Phase 2 class.  Example: A candidate with a seat in the Phase 1 (resident) class 13-023 must also have a seat in Phase 2 class 13-023.

What course dates are available and how do I get scheduled for WOCS?

Course dates for classes conducted by WOCC are available in ATRRS.  Go to https://www.atrrs.army.mil/atrrscc/.  Enter Course Number “911-09W” and click on Search.

WOCC does NOT schedule course dates.  That is done by Human Resources Command (active and USAR) or by ARNG quota managers.

How do I find out if I've been selected?

You will be notified if you are selected.  We are unable to tell you since WOCC is not part of the application or selection process.
