RSS, which stands for Really Simple Syndication, is a way to easily and automatically bring Web content to the user.
It's like having the Internet search itself for you, using the keywords or Web addresses that you specify. RSS is free,
and the feeds include headlines, summaries, and links back to Government Innovators Network for the full articles.
|
There are two components needed to run RSS: a feed and a reader. For you to receive information via RSS, a Web site must provide an RSS feed.
You may have seen RSS icons like this on many of your favorite sites . These icons indicate that content on that page is
available through an RSS feed. By clicking them, you can subscribe to that Web site, or a section of it. Whenever the content is updated,
it's fed to your reader. The advantage of RSS is that you may specify multiple searches and receive the information in one place.
There are different versions of RSS, with RSS 2.0 being the most current. There are also numerous readers that can be downloaded as stand-alone
programs or used as part of Internet browsers, such as Safari, Firefox, and Internet Explorer, or search engines such as Google or Yahoo.
Depending on the reader you use, the method of subscribing to RSS will vary. However, the many choices make it easy to find a configuration that will work best for you. To learn more about RSS, click here.
