The Southwestern Region is 20.6 million acres. There are six national forests in Arizona, five national forests and a national grassland in New Mexico, and one national grassland each in Oklahoma and the Texas panhandle.The region ranges in elevation from 1,600 feet above sea level and an annual rain fall of 8 inches in Arizona's lower Sonoran Desert to 13,171-foot high Wheeler Peak and over 35 inches of precipitation a year in northern New Mexico.  map of forest locations »

Planning Rule Directives

Forest Service seeks public input on planning rule directives
The U.S. Forest Service has released and is seeking public comment on the proposed 2012 Planning Rule Directives, the key set of agency guidance documents that will direct implementation of the 2012 Planning Rule. The proposed directives are an important step in implementing the 2012 Planning Rule and creating land management plans designed to protect and restore National Forests and Grasslands for the benefit of communities, natural resources and the environment.

The Forest Service has authorized the City of Tombstone to repair or replace all water lines under special use permit and which were operational prior to flood damage. A list of documentation including maps and images is available.
