(CLOSED) Seeking topic suggestions for the 2012 SAMHSA In Brief series
SAMHSA would like to get your input on the topics for the 2012 In Brief publication serials. This publication is generally up to eight pages long and we usually develop 3 to 4 per year.
The intended audiences for the In Brief serial pubs are not behavioral health providers; rather, In Briefs are designed to inform and educate professionals whose work is affected by issues related to substance use or mental health disorders or who provide services for people who have these disorders. These audiences include legal professionals, educators, and primary care providers, to name a few.
Examples of past In Briefs can be viewed at:
http://www.kap.samhsa.gov/products/brochures/brief/index.htm
Additional input to include groundbreaking studies, promising practices, and the benefits or limitations of a particular treatment modality would be appreciated. The topics should not duplicate information that is also readily available.
As an FYI and to avoid duplication, there are currently several In Brief publications in development or in the pipeline for development:
• Treating sleep problems of people in recovery from substance use disorders
• Behavioral health issues among Afghanistan and Iraq war veterans
• Medical health homes
• Pharmaceutical drug monitoring
• Addressing the abuse potential of medical marijuana
Please use this forum to make recommendations and vote on proposed In Brief topics.
This forum will close on 12/19 at 9:00 a.m. EST.
Contact NewMedia@samhsa.hhs.gov with questions.
*Note Also open for comment, is SAMHSA’s Advisory Series http://bit.ly/tFDlhX.

Medical Assistance for People Not Old Enough for Medicare & Too Rich for State Medicaid
Is the only answer for this group of folks to move to another country, fake an accident to get the surgery they need...give up the small pension that helps them get by so the person then qualifes for Medicaid? People in chronic physical pain easily end up with mental health issues ...and guess what? They still can't get help because of being in this NO HELP ZONE because they aren't old enough and make too much on a pension or part-time job.

Meth Infants and School Aged Kids (known to have been born meth babies) Adverse Behaviors
I tried to find scientific studies associated with what types of behaviors to expect from a meth born baby as they develop to an infant than pre-school and early education. Would love to hear from the experts on any studies for specific behaviors i.e. habitual liars, delusions, living in a fantasy type world, slow learners, etc. to any known physical traits.
