Individuals receiving the incentive payment

I've heard that Social Security pays for information leading to suspension of a prisoner. If I report somebody, will I be paid?

By law, Social Secuirty can only pay incentive payments to jails, prisons, and other correctional institutions, not to private individuals. However, we would still encourage you to contact Social Security if you believe someone in jail is improperly receiving Social Security benefits. This report can be made anonymously.

To get in touch with Social Security, you can:

  • Call us at 1-800-772-1212, TTY 1-800-325-0778;
  • Write us at Social Security Administration; Office of Public Inquiries; Windsor Park Building, 6401 Security Boulevard; Baltimore, MD  21235; or
  • Visit Social Security's website.

Give us some feedback.
