Department of Commerce

The U.S. Department of Commerce has a broad mandate to advance economic growth and bring jobs and opportunities to the American people. It has cross-cutting responsibilities in the areas of trade, technology, entrepreneurship, economic development, environmental stewardship and statistical research and analysis.

The Department of Commerce is a partner in understanding the demographic trends of homelessness for use by local governments and states in their communities through the work of the Census Bureau. Counting people experiencing homelessness presents one of the more significant challenges faced by the Census Bureau. Their work on the USICH helps to provide a framework for research and evaluation for the other participating agencies.
