Description |
Reliable and Religious is the first story of a diverse group of dedicated clergymen, the U.S. Army Chaplains in the War of 1812. These courageous chaplains marched with the troops, fought Indians and the British, and ministered to their troops. Many of the chaplains served far from home for extended periods of time. Some were injured, wounded, or died while on military orders. They were a committed group of clergy dedicated to freedom from what they perceived as British oppression. Religiously, the chaplains represented every Protestant denomination in America in the early nineteenth century. |
