Title: TEMPEST Level I
Status: No longer produced
Category: Facsimile
Manufacturer: Secure Systems Group
Model: SSG 890T
Description: The SSG 890T Secure Facsimile is a plain paper laser facsimile transceiver based on the OEM Panasonic Panafax UF-770 with an Ilex Secure Facsimile adapter. Using the Ilex adapter, the unit is capable of interfacing with a variety of encryption devices including STE, STU-III, STU-II, STU-IIB, KG-84 A/C, KY-57/58, KY-68, ELCROVOX, and SPENDEX cryptographic units. Secure data transmission can be accomplished using one of three secure modes of operation: Synchronous, Modified Group III protocols; MIL-STD-188-161C protocols; Asynchronous proprietary protocols. It can also be used for non-secure transmissions using an ITU-T Group 3 mode. The machine produces a clear picture quality employing a Laser printing method on A4, Letter, or Legal size plain paper. In the transmit mode, the unit increases the speed of the fax process by scanning and storing documents into memory at a rate of approximately 3 seconds per page. The documents scanned then can be transmitted to multiple destinations. The machine incorporates a new sophisticated image processing technology to enhance print quality of ordinary received facsimile images by smoothing the curved edges of the character. The secure data interface is connected via a shielded 25 pin sub-miniature D type connector and cable. The unit has the specified base features:
  • Image Memory of 70 Pages (I MB)
  • Receiving Paper Cassette of 250 Pages
