Forecast Discussion: Tuesday, light northwesterly winds will reduce pollutant dispersion in the Sacramento region. Furthermore, calm evening winds and an overnight temperature inversion will allow pollutants to build up near the ground. These conditions, combined with pollutant carryover from Monday, will lead to Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups particle levels. Wednesday, as surface high pressure builds over the Pacific Northwest, light to moderate northwesterly winds will increase pollutant dispersion in the Sacramento region during the day. However, calm winds during the evening hours will reduce dispersion, leading to Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups particle levels. Thursday, winds will diminish in the Sacramento region, limiting pollutant dispersion. In addition, a strong upper-level ridge of high pressure will reduce atmospheric mixing, trapping pollutants near the ground. As a result, particle levels will be high-Moderate.
