How often is it covered?

Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) covers anesthesia services provided by a hospital for an inpatient. Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) covers anesthesia services provided by a hospital for an outpatient or by a freestanding ambulatory surgical center for a patient.

Who's eligible?

All people with Medicare are covered.

Your costs in Original Medicare

You pay 20% of the  for the anesthesia services provided by a doctor or certified registered nurse anesthetist. The anesthesia service must be associated with the underlying medical or surgical service, and you may have to pay a copayment.
